Huayhuash Trek Classic

The Huayhuash Trek Classic begins with an early departure from Huaraz (10,170 ft) toward the trailhead at Cuartelhuain (13,780 ft). During the private transfer, travelers witness the gradual transformation of the Andean landscape.

Upon arrival, a short acclimatization hike helps prepare the body for the challenges ahead. We camp at Cuartelhuain, surrounded by vast open terrain and towering mountain scenery.

We ascend toward Cacanán Pass (15,420 ft), the first high mountain pass of the Huayhuash Trek Classic, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

Descending from the pass, we reach Mitucocha, where we camp beside a crystal-clear lake reflecting the dramatic Andean skyline.

Today we cross Carhuac Pass (15,420 ft) before descending to Carhuacocha (13,620 ft), one of the most photographed campsites on the Huayhuash Trek Classic.

From camp, trekkers enjoy stunning views of Siula Grande, Jurao, and Carnicero, making this a highlight for photographers.

Often considered the most demanding day of the Huayhuash Trek Classic, we cross Siulá Pass (16,080 ft). Reaching the summit is a moment of real accomplishment.

We descend to the Huayhuash community (14,110 ft), where we camp and experience warm hospitality from local families.

After several challenging days, the trek rewards us with a visit to natural hot springs (14,370 ft). Before and after enjoying the thermal baths, we cross Portachuelo Pass, continuing along the classic route.

The contrast between physical exertion and relaxation makes this one of the most memorable days of the Huayhuash Trek Classic.

We prepare for the highest point of the entire trek: Cuyoc Pass (16,400 ft). From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking 360 degree views across the Cordillera Huayhuash.

We then descend to Elefante Camp (14,440 ft), a sheltered campsite surrounded by rugged alpine terrain.

Today features dramatic altitude changes. We descend to Huayllapa (11,810 ft) before beginning a steady climb to Huatiac (14,440 ft).

This combination of deep valleys and high passes defines both the challenge and beauty of the Huayhuash Trek Classic.

We cross Tapush Pass (15,580 ft) and Yaucha Pass (15,750 ft) before descending to the spectacular Jahuacocha (13,780 ft).

Sunset at Jahuacocha, with reflections of snow-capped peaks in the lake, is often considered the most beautiful moment of the Huayhuash Trek Classic.

The final day descends from Jahuacocha to Pampa Llamac (14,110 ft) and continues to the village of Llamac (10,500 ft).

After saying goodbye to the muleteers, we return by private transport to Huaraz, marking the end of this unforgettable adventure.
