Alpamayo Trekking

Our Alpamayo Trekking Tours Peru begin early with a scenic drive from Huaraz to the village of Vaquería, the official starting point of the trek. The journey crosses high Andean landscapes, traditional villages, and mountain valleys inside the Cordillera Blanca.

From Vaquería, we start a gentle hike following an ancient trail that leads us to Paria Camp. This first day is designed to help with acclimatization while enjoying peaceful surroundings, grazing llamas, and impressive mountain views.

Overnight camp: Paria (approx. 3,900 m / 12,795 ft)

Today is one of the most memorable days of the Alpamayo Trekking Tours Peru. We ascend gradually toward the impressive Punta Unión Pass (4,750 m / 15,583 ft), one of the highest and most scenic passes in the Cordillera Blanca.

From the summit, we enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Taulliraju, Artesonraju, and the stunning Taullicocha Lake, often considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Peru.

After time for photos and rest, we descend through a rocky valley to reach our campsite in Tuctubamba, surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery.

Overnight camp: Tuctubamba (approx. 4,250 m / 13,944 ft)

We continue deeper into our Alpamayo trekking tour with a challenging ascent to Pucajirca Pass (4,600 m / 15,091 ft). This high mountain pass offers outstanding views of the Pucajirca mountain range, glaciers, and remote valleys.

After lunch with panoramic views, we descend toward the rural area near Hualcayán, then continue to the peaceful campsite of Quisuar, surrounded by native queñual trees and Andean vegetation.

Overnight camp: Quisuar (approx. 3,750 m / 12,303 ft)

Today’s route takes us over Tupatupa Pass (4,400 m / 14,435 ft), a strategic viewpoint offering a unique angle of Nevado Santa Cruz and surrounding peaks.

Descending from the pass, we enter the beautiful Jancapampa Valley, one of the most scenic and culturally rich areas of the trek. This valley is known for its wide landscapes, flowing rivers, and interaction with local communities.

Overnight camp: Jancapampa (approx. 3,600 m / 11,811 ft)

We prepare for one of the highest points of our Alpamayo Trekking Tours Peru as we ascend to Yanacón Pass (4,850 m / 15,912 ft). The climb is steady and rewarding, with increasingly dramatic mountain scenery.

From the top, we enjoy sweeping views of glaciers and remote peaks before descending into the wild and pristine Huillca Valley, far from any settlements.

Overnight camp: Huillca (approx. 4,100 m / 13,451 ft)

A demanding and spectacular day. We cross two consecutive high passes: Mesapata Pass (4,450 m / 14,599 ft) followed by Caracara Pass (4,850 m / 15,912 ft).

This section of the Alpamayo trekking tour brings us closer to the legendary Alpamayo Massif, with increasingly dramatic glacier views. We descend to Jancarurish Base Camp, located directly below the north face of Alpamayo.

Overnight camp: Jancarurish (approx. 4,200 m / 13,780 ft)

The highlight of the entire Alpamayo Trekking Tours Peru. Early in the morning, we hike to the Alpamayo Viewpoint (Cerro Morado), where we witness the iconic and perfectly symmetrical north face of Alpamayo, often called “The World’s Most Beautiful Mountain.”

After enjoying the views and taking photos, we continue gently toward the Osoruri area, where we camp surrounded by high Andean peaks and silence.

Overnight camp: Osoruri

We begin our descent toward Cullicocha, famous for its striking turquoise lake set beneath dramatic granite peaks. The trail follows the Cedros Valley, a region rich in Andean flora and wildlife, with good chances of spotting condors.

We finish the day at Huishcash Camp, enjoying a lower altitude and well-earned rest.

Overnight camp: Huishcash (approx. 3,700 m / 12,139 ft)

On the final day of our Alpamayo trekking tour, we hike toward the traditional village of Hualcayán, passing through agricultural terraces and small Andean communities that preserve ancestral lifestyles.

From Hualcayán, our private transport takes us back to Huaraz, arriving in the afternoon and marking the successful completion of one of the most spectacular trekking adventures in Peru.
