The Alpamayo Climbing Expedition is a technical high altitude climb in the Cordillera Blanca, focused on the iconic west face of Alpamayo, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Designed for mountaineers with prior experience in ice and snow climbing, the Alpamayo Climbing Expedition involves slopes ranging from approximately 45 to 75 degrees and a vertical wall of compact ice and snow of nearly 1,000 feet. Our ascent is led by UIAGM certified mountain guides and supported by solid logistics, allowing you to focus fully on performance, safety, and the summit push.

Proper acclimatization is essential for success on Alpamayo. We strongly recommend completing an acclimatization program such as our Trekking Quilcayhuanca or the Huayhuash Complete Circuit before attempting this climb. Day 01 :

Huaraz – Cashapampa – Llamacorral Camp

We depart early from Huaraz at approximately 10,140 feet and drive north to Cashapampa, the main access point to the Santa Cruz Valley. From here, we begin a steady approach hike to Llamacorral Camp at around 12,340 feet.
This first day sets the rhythm of the Alpamayo Climbing Expedition, allowing the body to begin adjusting to altitude while moving through classic Andean landscapes inside Huascarán National Park.

Day 02 :

Llamacorral – Alpamayo Base Camp

The approach continues deeper into the valley as we hike toward Alpamayo Base Camp, located at approximately 14,200 feet. This is a key acclimatization day with moderate physical effort.
At base camp, guides conduct a detailed briefing on the west face route, glacier conditions, rope systems, and safety protocols for the upcoming stages of the Alpamayo Climbing Expedition.

Day 03 :

Base Camp – Moraine Camp – High Camp

This day focuses on load carries and gradual elevation gain. We ascend through complex moraine terrain to reach High Camp (also known as Camp One) at approximately 17,720 feet.
The route involves careful glacier travel, crevasse navigation, and fixed rope sections depending on conditions. This staged approach is essential for conserving energy ahead of the summit push.

Day 04 :

Summit Day – Alpamayo Summit – High Camp

Summit day begins around 1:00 a.m. to take advantage of firm snow and stable ice conditions. The Alpamayo Climbing Expedition reaches its technical peak as we climb sustained ice and snow slopes ranging from 45 to 75 degrees on the west face.
The final section involves a nearly 1,000 foot wall of compact ice, requiring precise crampon technique, efficient ice tool placement, and strong rope management.
Upon reaching the summit of Alpamayo at approximately 19,511 feet, climbers are rewarded with panoramic views across the Cordillera Blanca. After a controlled descent, we return to High Camp for rest.

Day 05 :

High Camp – Alpamayo Base Camp

After a successful summit attempt, we descend carefully back to Base Camp. This day emphasizes safety and recovery, navigating the glacier and moraine with caution as fatigue sets in after the technical demands of the Alpamayo Climbing Expedition.

Day 06 :

Base Camp – Cashapampa – Return to Huaraz

We complete the expedition by hiking back to Cashapampa, where private transport returns us to Huaraz. This marks the end of the Alpamayo Climbing Expedition, one of the most iconic alpine objectives in Peru.
