Pastoruri Glacier Day Tour

We depart from Huaraz by private transportation and travel south through the Callejón de Huaylas. The route passes Andean villages, agricultural landscapes and open puna terrain as we gradually enter the southern Cordillera Blanca.

During the journey, the guide introduces the natural environment of the region and explains the importance of Pastoruri as a destination connected to glacier conservation and climate change.

Our first stop is the Pumapampa spring, a natural water source located in the high-Andean landscape. We take time to observe the surroundings, stretch our legs and appreciate the relationship between water sources and mountain ecosystems.

We continue toward an area where the impressive Puya Raimondii grows. Known as one of the largest bromeliads in the world, this extraordinary plant is adapted to the extreme conditions of the Andes. The stop provides an opportunity for photographs and to learn about the unique flora of Huascarán National Park.

We arrive at the starting point of the walk toward the glacier viewpoint. Before beginning, the guide reviews safety recommendations, clothing requirements and altitude considerations. Although the distance is short, the elevation requires a slow and comfortable pace.

We begin the walk through a high-altitude landscape of rock, vegetation and glacial terrain. The path gradually climbs toward the authorized viewpoint. The walk normally takes around 45 minutes to one hour depending on altitude adaptation and group pace.

At the viewpoint, we observe Pastoruri Glacier and the surrounding mountain environment. Direct access to the ice is not guaranteed and depends on current conservation and safety regulations.

After enjoying the glacier views and taking photographs, we begin the descent. The return walk is generally easier, but careful walking is recommended due to altitude and changing weather conditions.

We begin the return journey through the high-Andean landscapes toward the Callejón de Huaylas. The drive provides time to rest after the altitude experience and appreciate the changing scenery.

We arrive back in Huaraz during the afternoon. The exact arrival time may vary depending on road conditions, weather, access controls and group pace.
